After completing both the Koper Music School under Professor Marijan Kocjančič and the Koper Secondary School of Pedagogics, Alenka Zupan continued her studies at the University of Ljubljana Pedagogic Faculty, graduating with a BA Degree in Primary School Teaching. At the same time, she studied flute at the Ljubljana Secondary School of Music and Ballet under the tutelage of Professor Jože Pogačnik. Within three years, she graduated with distinction at the Ljubljana Academy of Music, Slovenia, as an Academic Musician – Flutist in the class of Professor Fedja Rupel. During her studies, Alenka Zupan won many important prizes at music competitions in Slovenia and former Yugoslavia in flute, recorder and chamber music. Alenka continued her postgraduate studies at “Accademia Italiana del Flauto” in Rome, Italy, under Professor Raymond Giout and at “Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris”, France, under Professor Christian Cheret. In Paris, she concluded her studies with the highest degree of excellence and recognition: “Diplôme Supérieur de Concertiste de Flûte, a l’unanimité avec les félicitations du Jury”. In September 2006, she completed a Masters Degree programme: Special didactics of playing flute, at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana under Professors Fedja Rupel and Branka Rotar-Pance, PhD.
She regularly performs in solo concerts in Slovenia and abroad: Croatia, Serbia, Italy, Germany, Austria, France, Malta, Montenegro, Switzerland and Hungary. She collaborated with the Orchestra of Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, the string orchestra Camerata Labacensis and as a permanent member and soloist with the Coastal Chamber Orchestra, the flute quartet “Quatuor de Flûtes de Paris”, France, and with many other Slovene and international musicians and artists. She has published the CD, “Breath of Life”, which brought together the sounds of flutes with the sounds of nature; with the singer Shirlie Roden she issued CD “Angel’s Tunes”, which contains old folk songs. She has recorded with the Coastal Chamber Orchestra, with various other chamber ensembles, and solo for Radio Television Koper-Capodistria, Radio Television Slovenia, Radio Malta …
